There are at least a dozen recipes for cooking a salmon on a cedar plank on a BBQ grill. My favorite comes from allrecipes.com:

  1. Soak a cedar plank overnight, so that it becomes thoroughly wet and heavy. 2. Fill half the grill with charcoal and begin to heat your grill. 3. While grill is heating, mix your spices, score the salmon fillets, and rub the spice mix over the salmon. 4. Place the cedar plank on the grill, cover, and let be for five minutes or so, until the plank starts to smoke. 5. Transfer the salmon from your prep plate to the plank. Cover and move off the direct heat (or turn burners to low if using a gas grill), and cook for 20-25 minutes. (The cooked inner salmon should be 130 degrees on a meat thermometer.) Let stand for five minutes, then serve.
