The best way to thaw ground beef quickly requires a little preparation before storing it.

When you bring your fresh-ground or chilled ground beef home from the market, break the package up into meal-sized pieces. Store each piece in a freezer zip-lock bag, and pound it as flat as possible. Place them in the freezer. It can then be thawed in one of two ways: you can either thaw it in the refrigerator for about four hours, or you can place the bag in a large water-filled container for four hours.
